The project EXPLORING DACIA provides the general public with an app of augmented reality that provides all those interested with information about the cult monuments from Grădiștea de Munte – Sarmizegetusa Regia, as well as a series of details about some architectural elements and certain artifacts discovered within the historical monument (archaeological site) listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The app developed within the project contributes to the democratization of access to cultural goods, using augmented reality technologies capable of providing experiences through interaction with cultural items, very close to accurate perception.
The app displays general information about the temples from the sacred area of the Grădiștea de Munte – Sarmizegetusa Regia settlement, some architectural elements, and the presentation of some 3D artifacts discovered in this archaeological site. Thus, when the user points the phone or tablet on which he installed the application toward a monument, he can access the information through text, video, audio, or 3D models.
Using modern imaging investigation techniques, such as 3D laser scanning or multispectral photography, the 3D digital reconstruction of several artifacts discovered at Grădiștea de Munte – Sarmizegetusa Regia found in the inventories of the National History Museum of Transylvania from Cluj-Napoca and the Museum of Dacians and Roman Civilization from Deva. The virtual models obtained are accompanied by historical and archaeological information and data available to anyone through the application, both in Romanian and in English.
These data have not only a presentation role for those interested, but also acquire a scientific value for archaeologists, historians, and students of these fields.
The project also aims to increase the visibility of the capital of pre-Roman Dacia, Grădiștea de Munte – Sarmizegetusa Regia, the promotion of this invaluable heritage of humanity, following the model of other important historical monuments, museums archaeological sites of the world, which will lead to a diversification of the public, by attracting the young generation to digital solutions.
