"Dacian cup"
Inventory number
V 28958
Location
National History Museum of Transylvania from Cluj-Napoca
Description
The cup has a truncated cone shape, with slightly curved walls, a wide rim and a narrow bottom. The handle was inserted under the rim and near the bottom. This type of ceramic tableware is less common in the area of the Dacian fortresses from the Orăștiei Mountains, compared to other contemporary Dacian settlements. The majority of researchers considered that such artifacts were used as containers for lighting rooms, having traces of secondary burning inside. Some archaeological contexts from pre-Roman Dacia show that were also used in some rituals.
